gridding
Dividing into cells
Gridding is the process of dividing something into a grid pattern—overlaying or organizing with intersecting lines.
In archaeology and field research, gridding a site means marking it into squares for systematic excavation or sampling: We spent the morning gridding the dig site.
In data visualization and mapping, gridding converts scattered points into regularly spaced values.
