grayscales

Black-to-white gradations

Grayscales are ranges of gray tones between black and white, used in photography, printing, and digital imaging.

A grayscale image contains no color—only shades of gray.

The term also refers to the spectrum itself: The printer rendered the photo in grayscale.

As a verb, to grayscale is to convert a color image to black and white.
