Screen calibration image
A test pattern is a visual display of geometric shapes, color bars, and calibration marks broadcast by television stations, originally used when no programming was airing and to help technicians adjust picture quality.
The term extends to any standardized image used to evaluate or calibrate display equipment: The technician pulled up a test pattern to check the monitor's color accuracy.
