posterization
Tonal bands appear
Posterization is a visual effect where smooth gradients become bands of solid color, like a poster with flat areas rather than subtle shading.
In photography and digital imaging, it typically results from reducing color depth or over-processing: The heavy editing caused noticeable posterization in the sky.
The effect can be an unwanted artifact or an intentional artistic choice.
