go-fast boat

Smuggler's swift vessel

A go-fast boat is a small, high-powered speedboat designed for racing or, notoriously, for smuggling drugs and evading law enforcement.

The narrow hull and powerful engines allow speeds exceeding 80 mph.

The term emerged from drug interdiction efforts in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico: The Coast Guard intercepted a go-fast boat carrying cocaine.
