glue ear
Muffled hearing in children
Glue ear is a common childhood condition in which thick, sticky fluid accumulates in the middle ear, causing temporary hearing loss.
The medical term is otitis media with effusion.
It typically follows ear infections or colds and often resolves on its own, though persistent cases may require grommets—tiny tubes inserted surgically to drain the fluid.
The doctor said his speech delay was caused by glue ear.
