tonsillitis
Swollen throat glands
Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, the two oval-shaped tissue masses at the back of the throat.
Usually caused by viral or bacterial infection, it produces sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and swollen glands.
Recurring cases once led routinely to surgical removal of the tonsils, though this is now less common: The doctor said her tonsillitis would clear up with antibiotics.
