geotags
Digital place markers
Geotags are location data embedded in digital content, especially photographs.
When you take a photo with a smartphone, the device can record the GPS coordinates where the image was captured.
Social media platforms use geotags to show where posts originated: She geotagged her vacation photos in Barcelona.
Privacy-conscious users disable geotagging to avoid revealing their location.
