furries
Anthropomorphic animal enthusiasts
Furries are people who have strong interest in anthropomorphic animals—fictional creatures with human characteristics like walking upright, speaking, and wearing clothes.
The furry fandom encompasses art, costumes, online communities, and conventions.
Some furries create animal personas called fursonas and wear elaborate fursuits.
The subculture is often mischaracterized as primarily sexual, though for most participants the appeal centers on creativity, identity expression, and community: My daughter got into furries through DeviantArt.
