mechas

Piloted combat robots

Mechas are giant humanoid robots, typically piloted from within by a human operator.

The concept originated in Japanese anime and manga, where mechas serve as war machines, construction equipment, or symbols of technological power.

The term has spread to video games, films, and science fiction generally: The pilot climbed into the mecha's cockpit.

Also spelled mecha as both singular and plural.
