powder horn
Musketeer's charge holder
A powder horn is a container made from an animal horn, historically used to carry gunpowder for muzzle-loading firearms.
The horn's natural shape—wide at one end, narrow at the other—made it ideal for storing powder and pouring measured amounts into a gun barrel.
Powder horns were essential equipment for hunters and soldiers from the 16th through 19th centuries, often decorated with carvings or engravings: The museum displayed powder horns from the Revolutionary War.
