free-diving

Lungful-only deep swimming

Free-diving is underwater diving without breathing apparatus—the diver holds their breath for the entire descent and ascent.

Competitive free-divers train to reach extreme depths on a single breath, sometimes exceeding 100 meters.

The term distinguishes breath-hold diving from scuba diving, where tanks supply air.
