back lot
Outdoor filming area
A back lot is the outdoor area of a movie studio where large sets are constructed—city streets, Western towns, medieval villages.
These permanent or semi-permanent structures allow filming without traveling to actual locations.
The chase scene was filmed on the studio's back lot.
By extension, back lot suggests the behind-the-scenes machinery of filmmaking.
