forecourts

Front open areas

Forecourts are open areas in front of buildings, particularly the paved spaces at gas stations where vehicles pull in to refuel.

In British usage, a petrol station forecourt is where the pumps are located.

The term also applies to the front courtyards of grand buildings like palaces or hotels, and in tennis, to the area of the court closest to the net.

The delivery truck blocked the forecourt.
