firths
Narrow sea arms
Firths is the plural of firth, a Scottish and Northern English word for a long, narrow inlet of the sea—what might elsewhere be called an estuary or fjord.
The term appears mainly in proper names: the Firth of Forth, the Firth of Clyde, the Moray Firth.
Outside Scotland, firth is rarely used except in reference to these geographic features.
