fireback

Hearth's iron wall

A fireback is the rear wall or lining of a fireplace, typically made of cast iron or firebrick to protect the masonry and reflect heat into the room.

Decorative firebacks often feature ornamental designs.

Separately, firebacks are a group of pheasant-like birds native to Southeast Asian forests, named for the reddish plumage on their lower backs.
