filmsetting

Light-based type production

Filmsetting is a method of typesetting that projects characters onto photographic film or paper rather than using metal type.

The technology dominated professional publishing from the 1960s through the 1980s, before digital typesetting replaced it.

Also called phototypesetting or photocomposition.
