cold type
Non-metal typesetting method
Cold type is typesetting produced without hot metal—the method that dominated printing before the late twentieth century.
The term covers phototypesetting and later digital composition, where text is created photographically or electronically rather than cast from molten lead.
The newspaper switched to cold type in the 1970s.
