feijoada

Lusophone bean feast

Feijoada is Brazil's national dish—a hearty stew of black beans cooked with various cuts of pork, including sausage, bacon, and often ears, tail, and feet.

Traditionally served with rice, collard greens, orange slices, and farofa (toasted cassava flour).

The dish reflects Portuguese and African culinary influences and is typically eaten as a weekend meal: Saturday feijoada at my grandmother's house was a family ritual.
