palmito
Edible tree core
Palmito is the edible inner core of certain palm trees, harvested as a vegetable.
Also called heart of palm, it has a mild, slightly nutty flavor and tender texture, often sliced into rounds for salads or served as an appetizer: The Brazilian salad featured palmito and tomatoes.
The Spanish word is used in English particularly in Latin American culinary contexts.
