Bahia

Northeastern Brazilian state

Bahia is a state in northeastern Brazil, known for its Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage, colonial architecture, and extensive Atlantic coastline.

Its capital, Salvador, was Brazil's first colonial capital and remains a major cultural center.

The name comes from Portuguese for "bay," referring to the Bay of All Saints where Salvador is situated.

Bahia is also used attributively for things originating there, such as Bahia grass or Bahia oranges.
