entree
Centerpiece of dinner
An entree is a dish served as the main course of a meal in American usage: The entrees include steak, salmon, and a vegetarian option.
In formal dining and much of the world outside the United States, an entree is a course served before the main dish—closer to an appetizer.
The spelling entrée, with the accent, is also common.
