embarcadero

Spanish waterfront term

An embarcadero is a wharf or landing place, especially along a waterfront where ships load and unload.

The word comes from Spanish and appears primarily in place names along the American West Coast, most notably San Francisco's Embarcadero district: We walked along the Embarcadero at sunset.
