disembarking

Leaving the ship

Disembarking is getting off a ship, airplane, or other vehicle at the end of a journey.

The word carries a formal or official tone—airline announcements use it, casual speakers rarely do: Please remain seated until the aircraft has come to a complete stop before disembarking.

The opposite is embarking.
