electrolyses
Splits using current
Electrolyses is the plural of electrolysis—the process of using electric current to drive a chemical reaction, typically to decompose a compound into its elements.
Water can be split into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis; metals are refined or plated the same way.
The term also covers the cosmetic procedure that destroys hair follicles with electric current: She had several electrolyses before the hair stopped growing back.
