half-reaction
Oxidation or reduction
A half-reaction is one of the two parts of a redox reaction, showing either the oxidation or the reduction separately.
In electrochemistry, splitting the full reaction this way clarifies electron transfer: one half-reaction shows electrons being lost, the other shows electrons being gained.
Balance the half-reactions before combining them.
