electability
Chances of winning
Electability is a candidate's perceived ability to win an election.
The concept is circular—voters often support candidates they believe others will support, making electability partly self-fulfilling.
She has the experience, but voters question her electability.
The term appears most often in primary campaigns, where partisans weigh ideological preference against pragmatic calculation about who can beat the opposing party.
