primary ballot

Nomination election form

A primary ballot is the ballot used in a primary election, where voters select candidates to represent a political party in a general election.

The term may also refer to the act of voting in such an election: She cast her primary ballot for the progressive candidate.

Rules vary by state—some primaries are open to all voters, others restricted to registered party members.
