Dummies is the plural of dummy—a figure representing a human body, as in a ventriloquist's dummy or a crash-test dummy.
A dummy is also a stupid person: Those dummies left the door unlocked.
The "For Dummies" book series popularized the self-deprecating phrase: I need a guide for dummies.
In card games, the dummy is the exposed hand played by the declarer's partner.
