lies
Words without truth
Lies are false statements made with intent to deceive.
The word covers everything from small social fibs to serious fraud.
To lie is to make such statements: She lied about her age.
Lie also means to recline or be situated: The book lies on the table, The valley lies between two mountains.
These are two different verbs—the deception verb has past tense lied; the reclining verb has past tense lay.
