shift rotation
Work schedule alternation
Shift rotation is the scheduled cycling of workers through different time periods—day shifts, evening shifts, night shifts—rather than keeping them on fixed schedules.
The practice distributes the burden of undesirable hours and maintains 24-hour coverage: The hospital uses a two-week shift rotation.
