dragsters
Quarter-mile machines
Dragsters are vehicles built or modified for drag racing—straight-line acceleration contests over a short distance, typically a quarter mile.
The term covers everything from street cars modified for weekend racing to purpose-built machines with massive engines and parachutes for braking: The dragsters lined up at the starting line.
A dragster can also mean the person who races one.
