commuting
Home-to-work journey
Commuting is regular travel between home and work, typically daily.
The word implies routine—the same route, the same crowds, the same delays: My commute takes forty-five minutes each way.
Someone who commutes is a commuter.
The verb commute also means to reduce a sentence or convert one form of payment to another, but the travel sense dominates modern usage.
