double reed
Oboe's vibrating pair
A double reed is a wind instrument mouthpiece made of two thin pieces of cane bound together, vibrating against each other when air passes between them.
Oboes, bassoons, and English horns use double reeds, producing their distinctive nasal, penetrating tone.
The term also refers to instruments in this family: the double reeds of the orchestra.
