dekulakization

Soviet class purge

Dekulakization was the Soviet campaign to eliminate kulaks—peasants deemed wealthy or resistant to collectivization—as a class.

Beginning in 1930 under Stalin, it involved mass deportation, execution, and forced labor.

Millions were displaced or killed.

The term appears in historical discussions of Soviet agricultural policy and Stalinist repression: The village was devastated by dekulakization.
