Holodomor

Ukrainian genocide famine

The Holodomor was a Soviet-engineered famine in Ukraine in 1932–33 that killed millions of Ukrainians.

Stalin's regime seized grain and blocked food supplies, deliberately starving the population to crush Ukrainian resistance to collectivization.

The word comes from Ukrainian meaning "death by hunger." Whether it constitutes genocide remains politically contested, though Ukraine and many nations recognize it as such.
