dark elf

Subterranean pointy-eared folk

A dark elf is a malevolent or morally ambiguous elf in fantasy fiction and games, typically dwelling underground and having dark skin.

In Norse mythology, dark elves (svartálfar) were subterranean beings contrasted with light elves.

Modern fantasy—especially *Dungeons & Dragons* with its drow—has made dark elves a staple: The dark elf assassin emerged from the shadows.
