crosscut saw

Grain-severing tool

A crosscut saw is a saw designed to cut wood across the grain, as opposed to a rip saw that cuts along the grain.

The teeth are shaped and angled to sever wood fibers cleanly rather than chisel them out.

Crosscut saws range from small hand saws to large two-person saws used for felling trees: They brought down the oak with a crosscut saw.
