whipsaw
Pit saw's cousin
A whipsaw is a long, narrow saw with handles at both ends, operated by two people.
The back-and-forth motion gives rise to the verb: to whipsaw is to cut with such a saw, or figuratively, to subject someone to opposing pressures simultaneously.
In finance, to get whipsawed is to suffer losses from rapid reversals in price: I got whipsawed when the market dropped right after I bought, then rose after I sold.
