credence

Weight given testimony

Credence is belief or acceptance that something is true.

To give credence to a claim is to treat it as plausible or worthy of belief.

Lend credence works similarly—evidence lends credence to a theory by making it more believable.

The word appears almost exclusively in these phrases rather than standing alone.
