presumption
Unproven accepted belief
Presumption is an assumption made without proof, or the act of assuming something is true before it's established: The presumption of innocence protects the accused.
It also means bold or arrogant behavior—taking liberties beyond what's appropriate: It was sheer presumption to think he could walk in without an appointment.
A presumption in law is something accepted as true until proven otherwise.
