opening bid
Auction's starting price
An opening bid is the first offer made in an auction or negotiation, establishing a starting point for subsequent bids.
In bridge and other card games, it's the first bid that begins the auction phase.
The term extends to any initial proposal meant to start a back-and-forth: Their opening bid on the house was well below asking price.
