turndown

Decline an offer

A turndown is a rejection or refusal: We got a turndown on our loan application.

The word also names the hotel service of preparing a room for sleep—folding back the bedcovers, dimming lights, perhaps leaving a mint on the pillow.

As an adjective, turndown describes collars that fold down rather than standing upright.
