convex lens

Outward-curving optic

A convex lens is thicker in the middle than at the edges, causing light rays passing through it to converge at a focal point.

Found in magnifying glasses, cameras, eyeglasses for farsightedness, and the human eye.

The opposite of a concave lens, which is thinner in the middle and causes light to diverge.
