presbyopia
Near vision decline
Presbyopia is the gradual loss of the eye's ability to focus on nearby objects, a natural part of aging that typically becomes noticeable in the early to mid-forties.
The lens stiffens over time, making it harder to shift focus from distant to close objects.
Reading glasses or bifocals are the usual remedy: I finally admitted I had presbyopia when I couldn't read a menu without holding it at arm's length.
