brain lateralization
Sided cognitive division
Brain lateralization is the tendency for certain mental functions to be processed more by one hemisphere of the brain than the other.
Language processing, for instance, occurs predominantly in the left hemisphere for most people, while spatial reasoning tends to favor the right.
The concept has been oversimplified in popular culture into claims that people are "left-brained" or "right-brained," but the brain's two hemispheres work together on most tasks.
