co-insurance

Divided payment responsibility

Co-insurance is a cost-sharing arrangement in health insurance where the insured pays a fixed percentage of covered expenses after meeting a deductible.

If your plan has 20% co-insurance, you pay 20% and the insurer pays 80%: After the deductible, my co-insurance kicked in at 30%.

Not to be confused with a copay, which is a flat fee per visit.
