Pap smear
Cervical cell test
A Pap smear is a routine screening test for cervical cancer, in which cells are scraped from the cervix and analyzed for abnormalities.
The capital P honors George Papanicolaou, the physician who pioneered the technique in the 1940s.
Regular Pap smears have dramatically reduced cervical cancer deaths: Her Pap smear came back normal. (Also written pap smear.)
