castanets
Finger-held rhythm shells
Castanets are a percussion instrument consisting of two shell-shaped pieces of wood or plastic, held in the hand and clicked together rhythmically.
They're associated with Spanish flamenco dancing and music: The dancer's castanets punctuated every turn.
The clicking sound itself may be called castanets.
