pelisse
Officer's formal overgarment
A pelisse is a long outer garment, typically a coat or cloak.
In the early 19th century, it referred to a woman's ankle-length coat, often fur-trimmed or fur-lined: She wrapped her pelisse tightly against the cold.
The term also applied to a military jacket worn draped over one shoulder by hussars.
The word is historical and rarely encountered outside period novels or costume discussions.
